The Wrecking Coast Distillery is based in Tintagel, Cornwall, and run by four friends; Avian Sandercock, Craig Penn, Steve Wharton and myself Daniel Claughton, together we have proudly launched our premium Cornish Clotted Cream Gin.
From the simple beginnings of boys brew club an epic journey of discovery entailed.
We love gin but we wanted to come up with a gin that we really love, a gin to be proud of, a gin that when anyone asked we are proud to say "we made that". We knew we had to add to it something from the heart of Cornwall and gin with a hint of pasty probably wasn't going to be a winner! The Cornish clotted cream gin had begun. With so many wonderful ingredients and flavours to play with most, as a chef, I had come across, some I had never. Blending them to create a rich flavoursome gin was in itself a joy and sometimes pain but with so many gins on the market, at least five from Cornwall itself, we knew we had to stand out. A gin that was built from the ground up to hit the right balance of flavours.
While simply delicious served either neat over ice or with tonic, strawberries and lime I would thoroughly recommend a twist on a mojito by muddling together some fresh strawberries, mint and sirop de gomme adding a good measure of Wrecking Coast gin and topping with soda for a long refreshing drink.
Who we are
Charlie’s is a small, well established, family restaurant and delicatessen located in the legendary village of Tintagel, North Cornwall. We stock mainly Cornish produce, although do we make exceptions for exceptional things from further afield. Our focus on food is fresh, local and seasonal produce served in a simple manner allowing the ingredients to speak for themselves. We particularly favour smaller independent producers and are always seeking out artisans in our local area for new stock.
